There is no shortage of great places to eat in Houston and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Whether you want Texas BBQ, pizza, Indian, tacos or a burger, Houston has it all. Here are some of our favorite cheap eats:

Little Bigs Sliders (4621 Montrose Blvd)
They serve the “Trio”, which is 3 signature sliders, which you can mix and match, for $6.99.  We loved the ground beef, the Carolina pulled pork and the black bean slider.  The chili cheese hot dog slider was out of this world!  Great fries, too.  The kids can’t stop talking about the milkshakes.

The Pit Room BBQ (1201 Richmond Ave)
Texas BBQ is a culinary category all to itself, and The Pit Room is a fine example of how good it can be.  Smoked brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, pulled pork, turkey, chicken, and 3 types of sausage: beef, pork and venison.  They’ve got all the standard sides, plus some really delicious desserts.  It’s a walk up counter sort of place, and their BBQ sauce is divine.  You won’t leave hungry.

Bombay Pizza Co. (914 Main St.)
Part pizza place, part Indian restaurant, and all delicious, Bombay Pizza is a must stop place if you like Indian food.  They make Indian-inspired pizzas but also traditionals, like pepperoni and cheese.  They have awesome curry and tandoori rolls in naan bread, including our favorite, the Tandoori Chicken roll.  And their appetizers are great too.

Torchy’s Tacos (Multiple locations)
Torchy’s is a Texas original, serving gourmet tacos of all kinds, including the Fried Avocado taco, a brisket taco, and a fried chicken taco called the Trailer Park.  We love their breakfast tacos.  They have tacos of the month, soda made with sugar instead of corn syrup, and our boys’ favorite, fried chocolate chip cookie dough balls called Lil’ Nookies.

Good Dog Houston (903 Studewood St)
Their motto is “buy it local and make it by hand”.  Everything is locally sourced or made in house.  They have a dog friendly patio, and a great selection of beer.  The Texican Dog (below) is refried beans, oaxaca cheese, avocado, pickled jalapeno and more.  It’s crazy good and the prices are reasonable.  They can make any dog a tofu dog and serve great fries.
