I'm Alexandra Beaumont, and I write Our Family Travel Adventures. This site covers one stretch of coast — Cancún, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya — because that's where we keep going back, and because one coast done properly beats a whole country done from a press kit.

What I actually check is the stuff that decides whether a week works with children: which pool has a shallow end and which one drops off at the edge, what age a kids club really takes (the brochure age and the front-desk age are often different), how far the room is from the buffet at 7am, and whether the beach out front holds seaweed in July. I write the awkward answers down too — a playground that only runs to age four, a shuttle with no car seat. Those are the details you can't get from a resort's own website.
